Here’s something they don’t teach you in school – never saute hot peppers in a frying pan. Well, unless you’re feeling adventurous and you want to experience the feeling of toxic pepper fumes burning your eyes, nose, throat, and hand. In that case, prepare your goggles and gloves!
Seriously though, sauteing hot peppers in a frying pan is a terrible idea, so don’t do it please for you own sake. It instantly vaporizes into pepper spray, and it can turn your kitchen, or even the entire house, into a disaster area. It’s like spraying yourself with a pepper spray. That doesn’t sound very smart, does it?
Here’s a photo of a chef who thought this was a good idea.
The unfortunate chef in this photo could not even feel his hands after his hot pepper accident. It burned so bad that it became numb, and he had to soak his hands in a bowl of ice water afterwards. Also, note the pizza in the background. A true necessity to have in the freezer should the chef encounter such a night again.
On my next post, I will talk about how to handle hot peppers. Stay tuned!
